Memrise: Speak a new language App Reviews

I greatly enjoy the Memrise program and have been using it for over two months almost daily. I like the way the entire program is set up for language learning, and I think Ive learned a great deal from the way it walks you through each word or phrase and then reinforces it. Plus the explanation is more thorough than another similar system I tried previously. My only negative on the app version versus the web site is that it dumbs down the options. Essentially, when given a word to translate, it only gives you 7 or so letters to choose from rather than a full keyboard, making it easier to figure out the answer by guessing instead of knowing. Not sure why it is set up this way, but I find I learn better using the web version.

This is a fantastic learning and app. Its not fancy and the UI/UX isnt great, but who cares! It gets the job done! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

I wish there was a way too look back on the other words you have learned other than going through and looking at it again....that doesnt make any sense does it?

I signed up for pro and while it does work on the web the app does not let me use additional modes. Tries to charge more money. I made attempt to contact support but as one would expect dont hear anything back. Lucky I only paid for one month. *update, after finally getting response appears the app is buggy will rewrite review one bug is fixed till then I would wait to subscribe

Having taught Hebrew for a number of years, I can truly appreciate this marvelous and simple app. Where was this 20 years ago!!

I learn French on the bus to work every day. Im learning something new without dedicating hours/homework time to it. Its simple, easy and fun. I recommend!

Great tool for my own learning and for helping students master terminology.

This app is totally addictive for me. I really like it! Yes it does repeat words but i think thats a great thing because we learn by repetition. Better than the $600 Spanish program i brought! If you are homeschooled USE THIS! Better than Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur (tried it and didnt do so well with it)! Im trying to learn the top languages that are spoken in america (except for english) and this is really helpful!

This app is amazing. It uses current methods of learning, using current images and memes to help you associate the words with something. You learn 3 words or phrases at a time and then get a small quiz on those words, audio constantly being repeated so you know how to say it. This app is better than learning in a classroom. I love this app

Great app for learning language. Havent used it for really long but I really enjoy the way this app helps me learn Chinese.

Hey! Ive been using memrise for the past year on and off, and Im noticing a serious improvement over this time. Good job! I really enjoy the increased gamification of the experience with the rewards system and the like. But a few suggestions are this: A mode where two or more very similar choices are offered and a phrase or sound is given, and the user must pick the correct one. Unlockable mini games that dont have anything to do really with the course, but just act as a cool down, like Tetris or something, and it can only be opened up after finishing the goals for the day. Rewards that are bigger than a badge for a multi day streak. And on the topic of badges, you should consider putting a really over dramatic "holy crap you got a badge!!!!" Sort of animation that you see in a lot of video games. Itd be really satisfying :3c

I use this along side DuoLingo and my own French workbooks and its a HUGE help. I recommend when using a language learning appreciate app to try and use more than one method of learning the language. While it definitely works by itself Im not sure how effective it would be by itself. But I love this app and its amazing! Continue to support it and it can only get better.
