Im learning Norwegian, and Memrise has been such an integral part in this!! The app is a great stand-alone tool, and a great companion to other language learning courses.
I truly love this app. 지금 한국말 을 말할 수있어요
I speak fluent Korean and write hangul, and I wanted to just touch up on things I forgot. This app completely helped me do that and it is good for beginners too.
Its pretty good, I liked it when using Korean. But for the Chinese one the keyboard options were incorrect. I think the Chinese language one needs something fixing. But other than that its pretty good.
Pretty good
This app is great ,I love it so much, its very handy
Ive only just started using this app, so far its really good! I used the Rosetta Stone before, I had a terrible time with it. I felt like I was simply guessing and not learning! This app is so much easier to learn with so far!
Ive been trying to learn a language for almost a year now but didnt want to pay for classes or the Rosetta Stone because I didnt know if I would stick with it. I absolutely adore the software for this app though because its easy to use, inexpensive, and keeps my interest. Ive been using it for a week now and I have noticeably improved my Korean reading, writing, and speaking skills past the odd phrases I had previously picked up. The app encourages timely review of learned material and theres a lot of content thats accessible without purchasing the pro version, which helped me decide whether or not I would like it enough to make the purchase. Its really a great app and it works incredibly well!!
I took two years of French back in high school... and all I can say is that I have learned more in the few days that I have been using this app than the high school French I took!
It makes me love the Korean language even more
I love the make-your-own-pace approach to language drills, interactive format and sheer breadth of languages available!
Great, Very well made app. It helps me to study english enough :)
Fun and easy to use, and its free!
I started using the korean software to better communicate with my favorite band (BTS❤) and its really frikin cool. If you need to review a word they will make sure youve mastered listening and writing the romaji. Its not the best for learning the keyboard so if you are interested in Korean i suggest using another app to learn the actual letters great app though!!
Learning Chinese is incredibly difficult, even with good software. This app, even in the free version, provides multiple speaking voices to help reinforce tonality, uses great memorization techniques, and doesnt overload you with the characters. It focuses more on pronunciation and piece by piece word connecting, and is a must have for anyone wanting to start fresh in a new language.
Fun
Really glad I got this app, Ive been trying to learn a new language and found other apps to be boring and tedious to use, but this app is fun and keeps me wanting more.
They need better quality control and review of lessons. There are third party lessons and lessons developed by memrise. Its hit or miss. Memrises own Japanese lessons are not good quality. They decided to incorrectly use hiragana as a substitute for katakana. Such misteaching is carried throughout, until the end of Japanese 3, at which point you graduate with much mislearning. The lesson designers were too dumb to see the consequences of that and failed address that problem in the lessons, sticking with their mistake the whole way through the course. It would be nice to have a setting for larger fonts. I cannot see the small kanji in the grey box. Pictures would be awesome. Meet the natives feature is good. I use iPad horizontal view and Memrise now accommodates that. Many examples and questions are just wrong. Example:ー これは私のお母さん。 ー これ is never used to refer to people! For people, it should be この人. And お母さん (okaasan) is not used when referring to ones own parents (RyanKeene44, et al). The use of "okaasan" and "otoosan" to refer to ones own parents is wrong. "Haha" and "chichi" are correct. That is just one of many incorrect examples that are drilled in repeatedly, brainwashing the student with egregiously wrong information on language fundamentals. Some examples have up to four repeat identical answers -- thats pointless. If the expected answer is to be typed "moon; month" and the usee types "month; moon", it is marked wrong by the application, and that is wrong. If the meaning of the kanji is "color" and you typed "color" you got it wrong; they want you to use the British spelling "colour". Misinformation and wrong teaching is harmful. Memrise learning format is fun and engaging. With high-quality questions and answers, it would be a lot better.
Memrise is vastly superior to Duolingo in all of the ways that other reviewers have already said, but I do wish that Memrise had two options for repeating the audio - one at normal speaking pace, and one at a slower pace. This is a really helpful feature of Duolingo and Im surprised it doesnt exist in Memrise. Its a small thing but an improvement that I think would really help with learning languages.
